RIG Calls on Government to Recognise Radio's Needs
Posted on 5th March 2007
In response to increasing concerns that the Licence Fee decision will require the national BBC radio networks to cut programming budgets, RIG is calling on the Government to recognise the individual needs of the radio sector, rather than looking at the BBC as a whole. RIG is lobbying MPs and Senior officials with the aim of educating the Government on just what a precarious position radio budgets are in. RIG was shocked during lobbying over the BBC Charter at the lack of knowledge (and in many cases interest) MPs of all parties have of radio in the UK, believing it to self-regulating and generally unaffected by the larger issues that plague TV and Online. RIG will continue to work hard to bring to the fore all of the issues facing both in-house and independent producers...particularly that of the ever-diminshing budgets which are now at a point that many believe can go no lower without impacting negatively on quality or rights.
